China's SARFT to Start CMMB Company

China's SARFT (State Administration of Radio, Film and Television) plans to start a company to expedite the nationwide commercialization of CMMB (China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting) mobile TV services, Sina News reported on September 19. It is further reported that the new company will be in charge of CMMB program production and business operations.

Currently, CMMB services have been launched in 37 Chinese cities, where the subscribers can enjoy up to seven TV and two radio programs in the next three to five years for free. Furthermore, the SARFT plans to deploy CMMB networks in 360 prefecture-level cities in China by year-end 2008, according to the same report.
